From the University of Pittsburgh Anesthesiology Perioperative Update Series. Special Topics in Perioperative Medicine is an online CME program targeting the pre-surgical and perioperative optimization of patient care. Lectures range from risk assessment and shared decision making, frailty and resilience of the surgical patient, and perioperative telemedicine, to setting up a perioperative medicine clinic, prehabilitation, anemia management, and POCUS.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
– Explain how anesthesiologists can help their organizations improve outcomes and manage costs by expanding their roles in perioperative care
– Identify patients at excess perioperative risk using risk stratification tools, and optimize modifiable risk factors
– Apply decision aids and shared decision making in discussions with other physicians and with patients in perioperative clinic
