This book is the result of the author’s research experience; reflects the results of research carried out by her in the Promesa Health Promotion research group of the Universidad del Valle. It integrates the developments of the application of research to practice, teaching and networking in different local, national and international groups. It is based on a holistic vision of women as human beings under the guidelines of human rights, human development and a gender perspective. It presents some situations that greatly affect the health of women and exposes relevant aspects for health care and for the promotion of women’s health. The content of this book refers to the health of women at various stages of the life cycle; presents some topics with emphasis on adolescent and young women, as can be seen in the subject of body image, empowerment and youth development; addresses the issue of women’s health, their care, the concept of health, health determinants and health promotion; also women and HIV; women and depression; physical activity and health promotion. Other topics are directed at women in mature adulthood, such as the topic of the menopause transition. The book contributes to the science of women’s health seen as an area of knowledge where many disciplines and professions converge with an emphasis on health promotion.
