By Andreas Scheib
The view of the German majority society on the topic of medicine is largely secular.
People of Muslim faith, on the other hand, often place the terms “health” and “disease” and their attitudes and expectations towards medical interventions and the mutual relationship between doctor and patient directly in religious contexts. This results in specific needs and expectations that distinguish devout Muslim patients from both Christian and secular people. Based on a series of individual interviews, this essential shows facets of the role of religious beliefs of Muslim patients in dealing with illness, medicine and the health care system. It is aimed at doctors and medical staff as well as laypeople with an interest in interreligious and intercultural issues.
