By Paula Pimentel de Araujo, Washington Barbosa de Araujo
A current and comprehensive reference in Doppler ultrasound of the carotid and vertebral arteries. The proposal for an atlas-book on the study of carotid and vertebral arteries comes at a time of need, even today, when there are few books on the subject with the aim of facilitating initiation into the subject. Echocardiographers and vascular echographers who deal with the exam find in this work a source of clarification for their doubts, those that always arise in everyday life, no matter how much expertise the clinician possesses. Divided into six chapters, the book innovates by addressing more the physical principles of the rheological properties of blood and its hemodynamics. In the following chapters, even with its proposed atlas, it seeks to exhaust the most relevant items in the examinations and concepts of the carotid, vertebral and subclavian arteries, their main diseases and post-operative examination techniques, when necessary. Chapter 5 deals with the venous study of the cervical segment veins, their correlations and the normal findings and some of the most frequent diseases found.
Despite having more than 400 pages, the authors knew how to do it in a way that provides an easy and pleasant reading, with very explanatory images. In addition, the book brings timeless content, a technique that, despite having more than 40 years of evolution, is still a hot topic of discussion in academia. The book delivers, already homogeneous, the opinion of experienced authors, with due filtering on the subject, the chain of ideas and the sum of a large volume of bibliographic references, which would take a long time to acquire individually. For all these reasons, this work surpasses any free online material on the subject, being of great use to cardiologists, radiologists and other health professionals who deal with echocardiography in their daily lives.
