The degenerative disease of the thumb saddle joint, rhizarthrosis, leads to a significant limitation of the thumb opposition and thus to almost every gross and fine motor gripping function of the hand. In the early stages of the disease, effective conservative therapy options and later joint-preserving interventions are available. In the advanced stage of the disease, after conservative therapy has been exhausted and with corresponding symptoms, joint resection procedures may be indicated.
