By Aileen-Filiz Sayin
In addition to the benefits and limitations of participation in a self-help group for women suffering from breast and genital cancer, this research work also reconstructs the effects of the disease and treatment on their female identity experience. In addition, additional resilience-strengthening and weakening factors with regard to the sense of coherence in the pre- and postoperative treatment process are highlighted, which can serve as clues for optimizing interdisciplinary patient care. The inhibition of communication through intimacy is central. Methodologically, problem-centered and biographical-narrative survey elements, as well as an inductive evaluation procedure using qualitative content analysis, are adapted to the vulnerability, consisting of intimacy and trauma, for the survey. The author Aileen-Filiz Sayin works professionally in psychosocial counseling and self-help activation.
